LEONARDO DA VINCI. THE MAN MODEL OF THE WORLD

To celebrate the five hundred years since the death of Leonardo da Vinci (1519-2019), the Accademia Galleries present the exhibition “Leonardo da Vinci. The model man of the world “, open to the public from 17th April to 14th July 2019.
The Venetian museum has twenty-five autograph sheets of the genius of Vinci, drawings that offer an excursus of extreme interest on Leonardo’s production and document, throughout his activity, scientific research with studies of proportion of the human body, of botany , of optics, physics, mechanics, weapons, and the preparatory phases for some paintings such as the studies for the famous ‘Battle of Anghiari’ or the ‘Sant’Anna with the Virgin and Child’.
Among all excels the ‘Vitruvian Man’, who has become a symbol of classical perfection of body and mind, a human-sized microcosm that is the reflection of the entire cosmos.
The exhibition will trace the essential stages of its existence through the graphic examples of the master, and his pupils or followers, starting from two Studies for an Adoration of the Shepherds referable to the youth period up to the splendid Three dancing female figures attributable to the French period, extreme moment of his life ended in Amboise on 2 May 1519.
A special section will be dedicated to the study of proportions and anatomy which will focus on the extraordinary ‘Vitruvian Man’, combined with important Windsor sheets and some pages of the Huygens code exceptionally from the Morgan Library in New York.
In a journey of great suggestion, the exhibition includes the exhibition of over seventy works in total, including thirty-five autographs of Leonardo.
